Preparing for eContentplus II
Digital Libraries: Scientific & Scholarly Content

This meeting was an excellent opportunity to meet key players of the promising content markets of Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and beyond. Over 120 representatives from libraries, archives, companies and research institutes of 8 different countries attended the conference.


Mr. Mihály Jambrik, State Sectratary Ministry of Informatics & Telecommunication, gave a warm welcome to the international audience and pointed out the importance of cross-border cooperation in Central Europe. This should not be misunderstood as going back in history - but should be seen as making use of the historic links and of the georgraphical situation in the center of Europe as ressources for a transformation to future developments.

Mr. Federico Milani, European Commission, DG Information Society & Media, gave a very clear presentation on the consequences the commission draw from the experience with the first call. In his speach he pointed out the changes with the new upcoming workprogramme and was able to give a good orientation on the focal points of the programme eContentplus.

Experts from different sectors of the "eContent-Community" from academia as well as companies and public authorities from the 4 CEE countries presented a variety of projects, approaches and analyses upon the broad topic of scientific and scholarly content, also with some links to neighbouring fields of educational content. As an effect the breaks of the conference were full of discussions and exchanging positions amongst the particpoants. Moreover, first consortia meetings took place in the corners of the restaurant of the conference-venue, such beeing the kick-offs of new projects we all will see submitted under the second call of eContent plus.

Finally Mr. Peter Biro from the Slovak Ministry of Transport, Posts and Telecommunications has concluded the meeting with an brief outlook on the upcoming 3rd event of the Initiative "Preparing for eContent plus" - the Orientation- and Matching Days on Educational Content to take place on Sptember 21/22 2006 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
